ArticlesUniVersus CCGAnnouncing the first MetaManiacs UniVersus Online League!

MetaManiacs is proud to announce our first Online League, and our first online event under the MetaManiacs Organized Play banner – the MetaManiacs UniVersus Online League!

This is a paid event, and all proceeds go to supporting our local Jasco Premier Store – Paradox Comics-n-Cards to aid them during this challenging time.

Beginning Monday, June 8th, 2020, our 4-week Online League will give you the opportunity to play against other players online to earn points each week. You will be able to play any number of games with other League players each week, and your best 5 games can be reported to earn you points. We’ll release standings every week on our Facebook page and Discord server, and at the end of the 4th week, all players’ points will be tallied, with the 8 highest scores earning their choice of a variety of prize packages!

This is intended to be a casual and fun environment where the most points are earned simply by playing and experimenting with fun decks, but for the player who wins the most, a special bonus prize package will be added to their other winnings. In addition, the first 18 players who did not place will receive a participation prize package. (f attendance is greater than 26 players, those 18 participation prizes will be granted to players based on number of played games emailed to us, and any further ties will be broken by registration date).

We encourage players to use the free Untap.in website to play their games – the decklist download feature will ease reporting and this ensures everyone can equally access the game without needing to make an additional software purchase. We recently published a tutorial video on how to use Untap.in in preparation for this, so please check it out here to learn how it works!

How do I sign up?

Registration will be done through the Paradox Comics-n-Cards website. Purchase your ticket and fill in the information at the link here, and we will be sent the names and emails of all registrants and will publish confirmation lists when the event begins!

Can I register late? Do I have to play 5 games each week?

You may register at any time, absolutely, and you may play as many games each week as you wish. If we do not receive a weekly report from you we’ll have you down for 0 points that week, but you are totally welcome to continue playing as many games as you’ d like in the following weeks. There are no requirements to stay in the event for its duration, so play as much as you want and enjoy yourself! Of course, it’s more fun for the other players to have more opponents, so we recommend sticking around!

Where do I find opponents?

We have created a League Game Finder channel in our Discord server – we recommend asking for games there!

League Structure

This League will run for 4 weeks. Each new League Week begins on Monday at 12:01 AM, and concludes the following Sunday at Midnight. The 4 weeks are:

Week 1
Monday, June 8th – Sunday, June 14th – Weekly Theme: Common Ground

Week 2

Monday, June 15th – Sunday, June 21st – Weekly Theme: Gotta Go Fast!!

Week 3

Monday, June 22nd – Sunday, June 28th – Weekly Theme: Split Personality

Week 4

Monday, June 29th – Sunday, July 5th – Weekly Theme: Highlander

Each week Players will gain league points each week following the point structure below:

3 POINTS – Play a match against a Unique League opponent
1 POINT – Win a match
1 POINT – Play a match with a deck built around the Weekly Theme

There will be a cap set to 5 matches per week eligible for points, but you are welcome to play as many matches as you’d like and report your best five. Thus, the maximum points a player can earn per week is 25 Points – for playing against 5 unique opponents (3 Points x 5), winning each of those 5 reported matches (1 point x 5), and playing each of those matches with a deck built around that week’s theme (1 point x 5). A player earning a perfect score each week would thus earn 100 Points.

Players will be responsible for setting up a good time to play their matches with opponents , and matches are to be “best 2 out of 3”. Only Matches against other League players will count for points. Playing against a unique opponent is not required – additional games against the same opponent can still be played to earn win points or the Weekly Theme bonus. At by the end of each week players will report their matches via email to jordan@metamaniacs.com.

WEEKLY THEMES

Week 1 – Common Ground: Excluding Characters, all cards in your deck must be Common rarity cards.
Week 2 – Gotta Go Fast!!: All attack cards in your deck must have printed speed 5 or higher.
Week 3 – Split Personality: Your main deck must contain at least 2 unique characters by name . After winning a game, you cannot choose the same character name (regardless of dots) as a starting character again that match. Noob Saibot may not be chosen as a starting character.
Week 4 – Highlander: “There can only be one” of each card in your deck. Your deck may not include more than a single copy of any card.

Formatting the Email

Your report emails should be sent by midnight on the last day of that week (Sunday). Please do your best to format them as described below:

SUBJECT – “Week (#) League 1 Report – (Player Name)”
BODY – Match details listed line-by-line. Each line should formatted as follows: Match (#), Opponent’s Name, Win or LoseYes (I used the Weekly Theme) or No (I did not use the Weekly Theme)
ATTACHMENTS – For each reported Match, there should be an attached decklist downloaded from Untap. Each file should be named as follows: “(Your Name) Match (#).txt”
FEEDBACK – You are welcome to include any feedback in your email as well. This is optional!

Please take care to fill out the email correctly and truthfully – any intentional deception or misrepresentation will be grounds for ejection from the league with no prizes.

Decklists should be downloaded using the the “Download Deck List as Text File with Set IDs” feature in Untap.in. For more details on how to do this, see this timestamp in our tutorial video. Decklists collected in this event may be used for content and promotion at the sole discretion of MetaManiacs, LLC.

If a player submits more than 5 matches to be considered in a week, only the first 5 listed in the email will be considered for points.

Deck construction will follow Jasco Games current Errata and Ban Lists, with the exception of Princess and the Pea which is BANNED in this event. Cards in current Standard rotation, plus Combat Ash, the other two Grimm Fairy Tales promos (Cheshire Black Vortex, Snow White and the Caterpillar) and any spoiled DLC kits up to Cowboy Bebop will be Legal for this league. All other Standard format deck construction rules are in effect, though the Weekly Theme will add its own rules on top of those if you choose to follow it.

Prizes

Following the announcement of the final standings at the end of Week 4, players in descending order of point totals* will be contacted to choose from the 8 Top Player’s Prize Packages until all top players have chosen. All other players will be eligible for the Participation Prize. Finally, the player with the most Wins will receive a Bonus Prize pack in addition to any other prizes they may receive.

While we will endeavor to ship as quickly as possible, please allow 2-4 weeks for prize delivery within the US. Shipping cost for prizes sent to US participants are included in the league entry, but international participants may be responsible for additional shipping costs in order to receive prizes. A player may elect to decline their prize if they do not wish to pay this additional cost or for any other reason. In such a case, the prize would be handed down to the next eligible player.

*Any ties will be broken first by amount of matches reported, followed by the amount of Weekly Theme “yes”es reported, and finally by the amount of Wins reported. In the event of a further tie (such as multiple players achieving a perfect score), a strength of schedule will be determined by comparing the total wins of all players who lost to that player in their reported matches.
